Here's the ultimate guide to getting your Real ID at the Utah DMV. We've simplified the entire process for you so you can save time.

 

What You’ll Need To Get your Utah Real ID

  • Completed Driver License Application (Form DLD6a)
  • Current Utah driver license
  • Proof of Identity and Lawful Status Verification
    • Valid, unexpired U.S. passport or passport card; or 
    • Certified copy of a birth certificate filed with the State Office of Vital Statistics or equivalent agency in the individual's state of birth (small laminated birth certificates or hospital certificates will not be accepted); or 
    • Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) issued by the U.S. Department of State, Form FS-240, DS-1350, or FS545; or 
    • Valid, unexpired Permanent Resident Card, Conditional Permanent Resident Card, Form I-551 or 
    • Certificate of Naturalization issued by DHS, Form N-550 or Form N-570; or 
    • Certificate of Citizenship, Form N-560 or Form N-561, issued by DHS
  • Proof of Name Change - if applicable (marriage, divorce or court order)
  • Proof of residence - if your address has changed from what is on your current license
    • Bank statement
    • Court documents
    • Current mortgage or rental contract
    • Major credit card bill
    • Property tax notice
    • School transcript
    • Utility bill
    • Vehicle title
  • Social Security Verification
    • Social Security card issued by the U.S. government that has been signed (stub will not be accepted)
    • W-2 form
    • SSA-1099 form
    • Non SSA-1099 form
    • Pay stub showing the applicant's name and full Social Security Number
  • Payment of a nonrefundable fee of $52.00

What You’ll Do to Get your Utah Real ID

  • Step 1: Walk-in at any Driver License Office
    • Your photo will be taken
    • Submit all the required documents
    • Provide current Utah driver license
  • Step 2: Pass the eye (vision) test
  • Step 3: Pay a nonrefundable fee of $52.00
  • Step 4: After all requirements for a driver license have been successfully completed, you will receive a temporary license with photo on the same day.  The completed driver license will then be mailed to you in approximately 8-10 weeks

 

Caveats and Exceptions to Getting your Utah Real ID

  • The Utah Driver License Division will start issuing the Driver License and Identification Cards with the Real ID indicator (Gold Star) starting February 3, 2019
  • If your license or identification card expires after October 1, 2020 you will receive a complimentary license or identification card with the Real ID indicator in the mail.  This complimentary license or identification card will have the same expiration date as your current license or identification card
  • If your license or identification card expires before October 1, 2020 you will receive a license or identification card with the Real ID indicator through the standard renewal process
  • Driving Privilege Card is not Real ID compliant
  • Make sure that the Driver License Division has your current mailing address. To update your mailing address visit dldaddresschange.utah.gov and enter your correct USPS mailing address
