Here's the ultimate guide to renewing your driver's license in Mississippi. We've simplified the entire process for you so you can save time.

 

What You’ll Need to Renew your Mississippi Driver License

  • For In-Person and Online Renewal:
    • Your MS driver's license number
    • Your Social security number
    • Proof of Identity 
      • U.S. Passport
      •  A state issued certified Birth Certificate. Must be original long form or a certified copy (No Photocopies Accepted)
    • Proof of Residency (2 Documents)
      • Utility bill
      • Rental agreement
      • Bank statement
    • Payment for the renewal fee (Cash, Credit or Debit Card)
  • For Renewal by Mail (for out-of-state military members and college students only)
    • For Military member:
      • Copy of your MS DMV driver's license or Social Security card.
      • Copy of your military orders.
      • Letter from your commanding officer that states your:
        • Name
        • MS driver's license number
        • Military status
      • Certified check for the renewal fee
    • For Out-of-State College Students
      • Copy of your student ID card
      • Notarized letter on your school's letterhead confirming that you are a full-time student
      • Copy of your MS DMV driver's license or Social Security card
      • Certified check for the renewal fee

 

What You’ll Do to Renew your Mississippi Driver License

  • If Renewing Online, you must meet the following requirements:
    • Be at least 16 ½ years of age
    • Be renewing a Class D (light commercial) or Class R license
    • Have a valid Driver's License
    • Have renewed your last driver's license in person
    • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Step 1: Visit the Mississippi DMV website. You'll need to provide:
    • Your MS driver's license number
    • Last 4-digit of your SSN
    • Your full name
    • Your date of birth
  • Step 2: Pay the renewal fee
  • Step 3: Your credential will be mailed within 48 hours your address on file

 

  • To Renew your Driver's License in Person
    • Step 1: Visit your local Mississippi DMV office
    • Step 2: Present your current driver license and other required documents
    • Step 3: Pay the renewal fee

 

  • To Renew by Mail (for out-of-state military members and college students only),
    • Step 1: Prepare all the required documents
    • Step 2: Include a certified check made payable to the “Mississippi Department of Public Safety”
    • Step 3: Mail all the required documents to:

Caveats and Exceptions to Renewing your Mississippi Driver License

  • You may renew online as early as 6 months prior to your expiration or up to one year past your expiration
  • You cannot renew online from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m., Monday through Saturday
  • If your driver's license is expired, you can still renew it, but you must pay an additional $1 late fee.
  • If your local MS DMV office has a self-service kiosk, you can use it to renew your driver license.
  • If your Mississippi driver license is suspended, you'll need to reinstate your driving privileges with the MS DMV before you can renew it
