What You’ll Need to Register your Vehicle in Arizona

  • Completed Title and Registration Application (Form 96-0236)
  • Proof of vehicle ownership
    • Notarized vehicle title OR Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin
  • Proof of identity, age, and legal presence in Arizona
  • Proof of vehicle insurance that meets or exceeds Arizona’s required coverage amounts of $15,000 per person; $30,000 per accident for bodily injury; AND $10,000 per accident for property damage
  • Proof of Vehicle Emissions Inspection (if applicable)
  • Out-of-state license plates (if applicable)
  • Payment for applicable fees and taxes:
    • $8 registration fee
    • $4 title fee (applies to vehicle registrations)
    • $1.50 Air Quality Research Fee
    • Vehicle License Tax, assessed based the value of your vehicle


What You’ll Do to Register your Vehicle in Arizona

  • Step 1: Apply for a restricted use 3-day permit to drive your unregistered vehicle to an emissions inspection station or the MVD (optional)

Caveats and Exceptions
